Real India. Huh?

You know what really really amuses me?
Goras in India and their idea of what India is.
See, when goras are abroad, they think India is this mystic land of culture and traditions that are essentially really really weird. SO they believe we travel via elephant and we eat on leaves and wear really odd clothing.
Goras, unlike us Indians, also believe in the entire "experience" when they travel. So it's not about sightseeing, it's about living that country.
I completely love that idea and try to do as much of that as i can when I travel. But the mistaken conceptions they harbour when they come to India are just downright hilarious.
I mean, have you seen those loose culottes/harem pants/dhoti pants that they wear with weird designs and mantras on them? Or the random use of the bindi. And the worst is when they try to wear a saree or a salwar kameez.
I mean, do you see our men in kilts in Scotland?
NO.
I just faiil to understand why they dress like that.
And then they try to eat and drink wherever we do and then complain about food poisoning. You can't handle it. We told you so. Let's get you some electral now.
I mean, Real India isn't about mysticism. It isn't about fake sadhus. It is NOT about yoga. And we do speak English. It's what's sold to them. And that's how they're easy to con.
True Story.
Maybe Lonely Planet should do a disclaimer piece on that.
Really.

There's also a saying in the land of the goras, 'when in Rome, be a Roman'. They try to do that, hence they get more than just experience of India but nature of things as such. :P
To feel India, breathe it in.

Cheers,

In that case, Indian people shouldn't wear western clothing when visiting western countries because they are not from there. If "goras" wearing a saree is seen as unacceptable , then do not wear jeans and a t-shirt! It works both ways. Many Indians have misconceptions on American culture and wear clothing that is a bit off while trying to fit in.

I agree with the Anonymous comment above. Many Indians have misconceptions about American culture and American women and yet have no problem trying to fit in by wearing Western clothing. Have you ever thought of someone wearing a saree as a way of respecting your culture? For example, in a month I will be attending an Indian wedding with my Indian boyfriend, yet I'm not Indian. Don't you think it would be disrespectful and a little awkward for me to wear clothes I would wear to an American wedding? I don't understand why you're shaming other women that are just trying to understand and embrace your culture more fully. And in response to your "kilt" reference-I'm Scottish, and in Scotland, men don't walk around on a daily basis wearing kilts. Kilts are worn primarily at special events such as weddings and funerals. Yet, Indian women wear sarees on a daily basis, so the kilt/saree comparison is invalid. Try to not shame others for embracing your culture. Honestly, I'm embarrassed for you by your ignorance.

Unfortunately I married an Indian. Before I met him I never hated Indians. Now I think I should ne the poster child for hating Indians. They are horrible people. I describe them as cockroaches, brown, ugly, and too damn many of them. Personally I think the Indian costume the women wear are ridiculous looking, but I realised something. They wear such bright coloured costumes because they are so brown and ugly. I think its funny when indian people think they look pale, it honestly makes me laugh. Me for example has a difficult time finding make up to match my skin, because the lightest shades are still too dark. Indians are the most hated race of animals in my country. Personally I dont think enough Indians get bashed. Indians think they are so smart, buf they don't understand how hated they are. If you google india you will discover a dirty filthy land inhabited by poor starving people. No mystisym or glam exists in India. It is the most dirty, ugly, impoverished and most over populated country in the world. Why can't Indian women keep their legs closed??? Disgusting horrible filthy dirty India. They make me sick, personally I'd never go there. The English they think they know is ridiculous. They have horrible accents and from my experience they only think they know english, their english is very poor, just like them.

I forgot to mention a couple of things, as a gori, I personally also think white girls look stupid in Indian costumes. The costumes are all thd samd design, it just shows that Indian women are all ugly brownrobots with no brains. Jndian women enjoy only 4 things in this life... marrying a man she doesn't love, having children, cooking and cleaning. Gori women on the other hand are much more intelligent, attractive and way more fun. We have our own minds and ard not slaves to tradition. Indian people worship funny looking animal gods and brown people with too many arm's. They are uncivilized. I call them " half humans".. perhaps one day the Indian will learn a gora saying, it is said "don't bite the hand thag feeds".. and as you may forget it is us gora tourists who put the money jn your pockets, it is gora companies such as telstra who gives you jobs. Indians work in factories making products to selk to us goras. If it wasn't for the goras you would be starving even more than you are now. When yhe western world gets tirdd of your brown antics and insolent behavior you will all surely starve to death. So please, dont bite the gora hand that feeds you hungry brown animals
